成長は、あとから振り返ると大きな変化として感じられますが、日々の中では意外と気づきにくいものだと思います。
この作品では、そんな「気づきにくい成長」を、親子で一緒に笑いながら共有できる体験にできないかと考えました。
「ノビノビ☆モンスター身長計」は、親子で並んで身長を測り、「伸びたね」「前はここだったよね」と自然に会話が生まれる参加型のアート作品です。
数値を測ることよりも、その瞬間に交わされるやり取りそのものを大切にしたいと考えました。
モンスターというモチーフには、成長することへのワクワク感や、少し照れくさい身体の変化も、楽しい出来事として受け取ってほしいという想いを込めています。
写真を撮り、その時の背の高さを残すことで、「記憶」だけでなく「記録」として家族の時間が積み重なっていきます。
また、この身長計は商業施設の中に設置されることで、親子だけの閉じた体験ではなく、街の中で見守られ、共有される風景になることも意識しました。
地元なので共有される風景を直に見れてとても幸せな機関でした。日常の延長線上に、少しだけ立ち止まり、成長を確かめる場所をつくること。それが、地域とのゆるやかなコミュニケーションにもつながっていけばと考えています。
イラストは、見るためのものだけでなく、人と人の間に会話を生み、関係性をやさしくつなぐ存在になれる。この作品は、その可能性を親子という最も身近な関係性を通して形にした試みです。

Growth can seem like a big change when we look back on it, but it's surprisingly hard to notice in our daily lives.
With this work, I wanted to create an experience that parents and children could share together, laughing about, and experience this "hard-to-notice growth."
The "Nobinobi☆Monster Height Scale" is a participatory art piece in which parents and children stand side by side to measure their height, sparking natural conversation with comments like, "You've grown so much," and "You were here before, weren't you?"
Rather than measuring the numbers, I wanted to value the interaction that takes place in that moment.
The monster motif embodies the excitement of growing up, and my desire to see even slightly embarrassing physical changes as fun events.
Taking photos and recording the height of each child not only creates memories, but also records, accumulating time as a family.
I also wanted this height scale to be installed in a commercial facility, so it wouldn't just be a closed experience for parents and children, but would be watched over and become a shared part of the city.
As it's a local institution, I was very happy to be able to see this shared landscape firsthand. Creating a place where people can stop for a moment, as an extension of their daily lives, and confirm their growth, is our hope.
This will also lead to gentle communication with the local community. Illustrations are not just something to look at; they can spark conversations between people and gently connect relationships.
This work is an attempt to give shape to this possibility through the most familiar relationship: parent and child.
